This project involved a comprehensive marine and land-based geotechnical investigation to support the planned extensions of the existing iron ore quay wall and stockpile area at Saldanha Bay.

Scope of Work:

Marine drilling was carried out using two Self-Erecting Work Platforms (SEWPs). The Merica F completed 48 boreholes to depths of up to 25 metres for the quay wall extension, while the Oyster F drilled 9 boreholes up to 70 metres deep in the Oyster Pond.

Additional land-based drilling was conducted for the extension of the tippler, bridge structures, and quay wall. The 9-month contract was completed in October 2013
